The AutoSens event in Brussels (15-16 September 2021): where everyone who is anyone in the field of perception technology for ADAS and autonomous vehicle industry will get together. All things new and challenging in the field of LiDAR, camera systems, sensor fusion will be addressed. An event that we surely do not want to miss!

Strong focus on high precision assembly equipment

We will attend the AutoSens event with the focus to engage in conversations and share our knowledge on how to make successful market introductions for automotive lighting and optical sensors, when using our assembly equipment.

The innovations in the fields of micro-optics and sensors that are necessary for ADAS are almost limitless, and we see numerous possibilities to effectively produce these products in an automated manner. We are eager to learn more about these possibilities; finding out in what manner IMS can support the (new) leaders in this market and share the intelligence with our valued network and relations.

At IMS we have a strong focus on high precision assembly equipment typically needed for optical components and sensors. At the AutoSens in Brussels on 15-16 September 2021, IMS is proud to present two of our latest developments.

1. New Active Alignment Workstation

IMS is continuously working to find new, better solutions in optical system assembly. Optical products are becoming smaller, yet reaching higher quality images.

Achieving higher optical performance is not only a matter of creating higher quality (accuracy) components, but can also be reached using Active Alignment.

IMS has therefore developed a new 6-Degrees-of-Freedom Active Alignment Workstation (6DOF AA-workstation).

  • 6 Degrees-Of-Freedom (DOF):
The AA-workstation is capable of aligning from 1 to 6 DOF
  • Integrated and Stand-Alone:
The AA-workstation works as part of a full assembly machine line, as well as it can become a stand-alone machine
  • High Accuracy:
The AA-workstation achieves alignment accuracies of 1 micron
  • Flexibility:
The AA-workstation is designed for compact lens or camera assemblies, optical sensors (e.g. LiDAR), projection systems, (automotive) light modules, etc.
  • Scalability:
For high-volume, short cycle time production, an optional system is developed to maximize AA-workstation usage.

2. PFC - Position Freezing Carrier

A world novelty and setting a new standard in active alignment is a feature that we offer as an option to the AA-workstation: our Position Freezing Carrier.

A major challenge in active alignment is the time it takes to bond the components. During the bonding process, specifically when glues need to cure (e.g. using UV light), the active alignment system is idle, and this is often the most time-consuming step in the production process!

  • IMS has developed a new system ‘Position Freezing Carrier (PFC)
  • Dividing alignment and fixation (gluing) over separate stations

The IMS Position Freezing Carrier, however, can separate the fixation from the alignment and allows you to take these two steps in parallel.
